I am using a USB2.0 to Ethernet driver from Plugable on my Windows XP 2002 professional.When I plugged it in, Windows XP though detected this hardware, it was not able to install driver for it. So i downloaded the driver package from asix website here

I tries to set it higher but it wouldn't allow me. I figured out that it's something with drivers but I'm not advanced with this. It says 'Video Controller (VGA compatible)' with a big yellow question mark next to it. I googled it and it says that's the default driver or something and I need to download the correct one. In OTHER DEVICES with VGA controller( VGA comptible) in a sub. 'New Hardware found' runs each time I reboot, yet everytime it's unable to find anything. My question is this who's down load do I download to install so that my VGA controller (driver?) works with the vidoe card, works with the PC.
When i unzip it I see these files in it:
ax88772.cat
Ax88772.inf
ax88772.sys
WdfCoInstaller01007.dll
history.txt (revision history for the driver)
How do I install this driver on my WinXP?
Do these files just need to be copied to some specific folders i my windows installation folder: C:Windows
Is it ok to copy :
WdfCoInstaller01007.dll & Ax88772.inf to C:Windowssystem as I see some existing *.dll and *.inf files in that path?
And copy ax88772.sys to C:Windowssystem32 as I see some *.sys there?
What about the file ax88772.cat ?

Don't just copy them to system32, this won't get you what you want.
Goto your device manager(Windows key + Pause, then device manger), and select the new device you installed. It should be a yellow exclaimation point icon.
Right-click on the entry and open it. One of the tabs has an install driver button, click on that. Then navigate to where you unzipped the installation files, and select Ax88772.inf.
Pardon the vague instructions, its been a minute since I installed XP drivers. But this should get you where you need to go.

I'm trying to enable Intel SRT on my laptop. To do this, I need to change SATA controller mode from AHCI to RAID. The problem is that windows has no drivers for RAID and I can't install it while controller is in AHCI mode.
For now I have RAID driver in INF package (inf, sys, cat files). And I can load Windows recovery console with controller in RAID mode. The last thing to do is to intall this driver, but I don't know how to do it.

Google says rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 123 .inf might help, but it doesn't.

use pnputil to add the driver to the driver store. Windows now detects the driver:

For me pnputil.exe did not do the trick. However, I found the following command, which helped: dism /Image:C: /Add-Driver /Driver:D: /Recurse. This assumes that your Windows is installed at C: and the disk with the driver is present at D:. This appears to even work, if the disk contains drivers for different architectures (x86 and x64) and operating system versions (XP, 7, ..).
